Brake Light

Brake light stayed on -- dashboard status light
- possible solutions were ...
- hand brake / parking brake / emergency brake is up
- brake fluid is low
- brakes need to be replaced
- turned out it was the third case
- if it's the third case, expect braking distance to be longer
- braking wasn't actually as bad as I imagined; braking distance increased by only 10~20%
- along with the new winter tires, the new brakes made driving this winter a lot easier
- total cost was roughly $500 given a new set of tires and a new set of brakes
- parking brake has not been looked at -- although I suspect it's in sorry shape considering the number of times I've accidentally left it up :(
- i.e. don't do that :/
- notes: before I started driving this time, I tested out my parking brakes and quickly flipping into neutral --
- it made a marginal difference in braking distance ~90%
