Lucky's Allergy Scenario - 20100902 - Vet Visit Notes
From SnOwy - Ed's Wiki Notebook
Today is Thursday September 02, 2010.
Signs and Symptoms
- Lucky started showing itchiness on Monday August 30th, 2010.
- Scratching more often than usual
- Unable to sit comfortably
- During the week, Lucky's paws have become red, and the nape of his neck where he normally would get his parasite drops is also very red -- more about that in treatment.
- Wednesday August 30th
- Gave Lucky a bath.
- By Thursday September 1st ...
- Did not sleep well and pooped in the bedroom floor (by the door though, so he's kept his mind -- before he pooped there however, he tried to wake Cara but went downstairs on his own. Cara woke and sent me downstairs to find him, I found him by the door but he promptly ran over to me and I brought him back upstairs -- in reality, he was telling us he needed to go, but neither of us understood).
- Morning -- pooped twice in the house, but on the pee pad. Good.
- While we were away at work -- pooped a number of times on the pee pad (5 to 6 times?) -- the stools appeared to progress from solid to very loose and light in colour (he's vacated all his bowels by this point)
Doctor's Office -- Treatment
- Lucky received a shot for the allergies -- we expect it to last 36 hours.
- Lucky has a prescription for two items:
- Metronidazole -- 50mg tablets; 10 tablets -- taken as follows:
- 1 pill every 12 hours for 5 days.
- Neoatropec -- 12.5mg tablets; 3 tablets -- taken as follows:
- 1 pill once a day for 3 days.
- Metronidazole -- 50mg tablets; 10 tablets -- taken as follows:
- Allergy medications suggested by Saturday morning if conditions do not improve -- todo: import paper chart to this page.
- Lucky's parasite drops will wait one week -- Apply Thursday September 9.
- Some (aloe, oatmeal) shampoo was given to us -- Lucky should be bathed twice a week until better -- Last bath was Wednesday; next bath is Saturday.
Observations
- The vet told us that a number of dogs had presented with allergies and diarrhea -- she attributes these to the weather; this has been an unusually stuffy, humid and hot week (I actually had my seasonal itchies this week too -- mild).
