Minutes 20100930.125952 Martin Group Meeting Meiering Lab
From SnOwy - Ed's Wiki Notebook
Martin's talking about proteins that switch --
The thing to be careful of is to understand what stability change he's talking about (ΔG).
Ligand binding, vs. Myristoylation etc., -- allostery.
- Positive ΔGswitch . . .
Okay, I'm clearly too late into the meeting to understand what's happening here... I'll bother Martin later about the paper so I can try and understand what's happening. Basically, Martin's work has to do with the burial and exposure of the myristoyl group. This allosteric change influences whether or not ligand binding is favourable or more favourable. There are two energetic cycles that are considered here. First, there is the myristolation energy cycle and the folding energy cycle. Energy cycles here refer to the change in the free energy of the protein (not enthalpy...).
