Current Status

the monthly update provided by Hillary gives us the semester end status
good progress has been made on all fronts

Human Practices Project -- intellectual properties, etc., Leah
Modeling Metaproject -- what modelling efforts have been successful in past in iGEM, Jordan; (We have hammers and nails, we haven't labeled them.)

design projects -- CaCO3 wildtype bacillus can already do this
options available: extract the relevant genes and produce compatible BioBricks
quorum sensing continued ... -- two-component regulatory system, gram positive targets (see abstract)
how specific are the gram positive quorum sensing species?
there's an AHL system that promiscuously detects gram positive and gram negative organisms and an oligopeptide system that's very specific
the oligopeptide system appears to be the current better candidate
current design working sessions have overtook the design meetings
peptide length is now known (found in Staphylococcus aureus (okay to use in Ontario -- many non-pathogenic strains exist))
possible future endpoint: a completely orthogonal signalling system
lab stuff-- continuing on the attX site items-- wt expression fixed, plasmid is contaminated
