Dingden

Done all except: install Cary Win UV, wrong disk.

created working directory-- C:\EdInstallStuff\ -- removed working directory.
installed: Endnote 9.0 from CD.
installed: Printer drivers for HP LJ P3005 from CD; prints OK.
could not install: Cary Win UV -- wrong disk (got help files instead of main program).
- must find correct Cary Win UV disk.
installed: MS Office Pro Plus 2007 from CD.
installed: Avira 10.0.0.567 from avira.com -- does not have a scheduled scan, will scan executables on demand (good behaviour).
- upgraded to latest pattern file.
downloaded but not installed: Firefox 3.6.3. -- removed.
installed: Origin 5.0 (floppies / no floppy drive on Dingden). -- done, + installed extra "dsc" folder; OK.
- need to get Origin 5.0 off of floppies (using stenern to copy over to a USB stick 5/5); note: there's a "dsc" directory on the final disk (copied too).
installed: Adobe Acrobat Pro 8.0 -- standalone application + IE inline plugin both OK.

Done all tasks.

- BSOD while getting latest pattern file; retrying... done, OK.
problem: Firefox does not accept SSL certificate for gmail.com / google.com permanently; investigate.
- fixed: Date on computer was wrong (read January 2002 -- corrected, SSL certs now work correctly).
removed (completely): Symentec Antivirus (two tries-- first try = BSOD)
problem: Now the network card isn't being recognized -- trying a reboot.
- fixed itself (probably an artifact of the BSOD earlier).
