Setting up GoDaddy hosted webmail (but self-hosted site with DynDNS)
From SnOwy - Ed's Wiki Notebook
This document is for you if you have this:
- registered a domain with GoDaddy
- using DynDNS for DNS resolution (IP address updating)
And you want to:
- set up GoDaddy webmail (online e-mail service)
- given that you've received a free e-mail address with GoDaddy at the time of domain purchase
Instructions
- Go to the DynDNS website.
- Under the header My Account in the left navigation, click on My Services.
- Click on Dyn Standard DNS Service for the domain that you want to have the new e-mail address.
- Click on the button Edit MX List in the below screenshot.
- Add the line smtp.secureserver.net in the Mail Exchangers page that opens.
Notes
- this won't allow you to forward mail to yet a different address -- that costs extra from DynDNS.
- the server smtp.secureserver.net is provided by DynDNS but that instruction is buried deep within the reading and I haven't actually unburied it yet.
- check out the catch all property of the e-mail addresses over at DynDNS configuration -- it's probably worth your while :D
